IndiGo has suspended its flights to Tbilisi, Almaty, Tashkent and Baku until January 28, citing the prevailing situation in Iran and concerns over operational safety. The airline said it is closely monitoring developments in the region and proactively reviewing its flight operations, with passenger and crew safety as its top priority.
In a statement posted on X on Sunday, IndiGo said it remains vigilant about the evolving situation around Iranian airspace. Following a careful assessment, the airline decided to cancel flights to and from Tbilisi (Georgia), Almaty (Kazakhstan), Tashkent (Uzbekistan) and Baku (Azerbaijan) on January 26, 27 and 28.
IndiGo typically flies over Iranian airspace for services to these destinations. However, due to current regional tensions, the airline is avoiding the airspace. While alternative routes are available, they significantly increase flight time and fuel consumption, an airline official said.
On Sunday, IndiGo cancelled flights on the Delhi–Tbilisi and Mumbai–Almaty routes. The suspensions come amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, raising concerns that the situation could potentially intensify into a broader military conflict.
