India’s planned white-ball tour of Bangladesh in August–September 2026 has been paused, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India awaits official approval from the Indian government. The development comes against the backdrop of escalating political sensitivities between the two countries, casting doubt over the immediate future of bilateral cricket ties.
The uncertainty has already spilled over into the Indian Premier League. The BCCI recently instructed Kolkata Knight Riders to release Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from their IPL 2026 squad. The franchise has complied and has been permitted to sign a replacement if needed.
The pause has raised concerns that India–Bangladesh cricket relations could follow a trajectory similar to India–Pakistan ties, where bilateral series have been discontinued and encounters are limited to multinational tournaments at neutral venues.
Despite the current impasse, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has included India’s tour in its international calendar, featuring three ODIs and three T20 Internationals. However, officials acknowledge that the series remains subject to government clearance and may yet be postponed or cancelled.
A senior BCCI official reiterated that overseas tours require explicit approval from the Indian government and confirmed that clearance for the Bangladesh visit has not been granted so far. At the same time, the board clarified that there is no change to Bangladesh’s participation in matches scheduled to be played in India during the upcoming T20 World Cup.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia described the decision involving Mustafizur Rahman as precautionary and procedural, stressing that it was driven by broader diplomatic developments rather than cricketing considerations alone.
