India’s ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill missed Punjab’s Vijay Hazare Trophy fixture against Sikkim on January 3 at the Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground in Jaipur after being diagnosed with food poisoning.
Gill, who was scheduled to feature in Punjab’s matches on January 3 and January 6 against Sikkim and Goa respectively, complained of discomfort earlier in the day. Following medical advice, the team management decided to rest him as a precautionary measure, keeping him out of the playing XI.
According to sources, the extent of Gill’s illness is minor, and there is no immediate concern regarding his fitness. The Indian batter will remain under medical observation and is expected to return to action once fully recovered.
Gill’s absence is not expected to affect his international commitments. He is likely to be available for India’s upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, which begins on January 11.
