Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding illegal betting activities linked to the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup, Rourkela Police on Wednesday carried out simultaneous raids at multiple locations across Rourkela.
The crackdown targeted areas under the jurisdiction of Plant Site, Uditnagar, Raghunathpali, and Brahmani Tarang police stations. Police teams conducted coordinated search operations at several houses and business premises suspected to be involved in cricket betting during the international tournament.
During the raids, officials reportedly seized computers, laptops, and cash from various locations. However, the exact amount of money recovered has not yet been officially disclosed.
The operation led to heightened activity in the affected localities, with police personnel conducting detailed inspections and questioning individuals present at the premises. Sources indicated that around four to five youths were detained during the raids and taken to a separate location for interrogation.
Although no formal arrest announcement has been made so far, police are examining all possible angles to determine the involvement of those detained and to assess the scale and network of the alleged betting racket.
According to sources, raids were conducted at approximately 10 to 11 locations across the city, and search operations were still ongoing at the time of reporting. Further details are expected following the completion of the raids and an official briefing from the police authorities.
