One person was killed and two others were critically injured in a head-on collision between an SUV and a private ambulance on the Digapahandi–Dengaushta main road near Kapamandi in Ganjam district early Tuesday morning.
The accident occurred around 3 am when a Bolero vehicle collided with a private ambulance coming from Gajapati Patra. The deceased has been identified as Lalita Nayak, a resident of Kashipur in Rayagada district. Lalita was returning home from Cuttack Medical with her sister and nephew after receiving treatment. She died on the spot, while her sister and nephew were seriously injured.
The injured were rushed to Digapahandi Hospital, where doctors described their condition as critical. They were later referred to Berhampur for advanced medical care.
Digapahandi police arrived at the scene promptly, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination. Authorities are investigating the incident and reviewing nearby CCTV footage to determine the sequence of events that led to the collision. Further updates are awaited pending the post-mortem report.
