In a shocking case of impersonation and financial fraud, a fraudster allegedly duped a local businessman of Rs 2 lakh by posing as an aide to Odisha Deputy Chief Minister K. V. Singh Deo.
The incident came to light after reports surfaced that individuals were receiving phone calls from a person claiming to be closely associated with the Deputy Chief Minister. The caller allegedly assured victims of assistance in expediting certain government-related work in exchange for money.
According to police sources, at least one businessman transferred Rs 2 lakh to the accused, believing the claims to be genuine. The deception was uncovered after a formal complaint was submitted to the Deputy Chief Minister’s office.
Taking the matter seriously, Singh Deo directed the Bhubaneswar Cyber Police to initiate swift action and ensure the arrest of the accused. A formal complaint was lodged on Wednesday, and an investigation is currently underway to trace the fraudster.
Police officials have urged citizens to remain vigilant and verify the identity of individuals claiming to represent government officials before making any financial transactions. Authorities emphasized that no legitimate government process requires informal monetary transfers through personal phone calls
