Oslo, Norway:An explosion occurred near theUnited States Embassy in Osloearly Sunday morning, causing minor damage to the building but leaving no one injured, according to Norwegian authorities.
The blast reportedly took place around1:00 am local timenear the entrance of the embassy’sconsular sectionin western Oslo. Eyewitnesses reported seeing smoke rising from the area shortly after the explosion.
A spokesperson for theOslo Police Department, Mikael Dellemyr, confirmed that the explosion had struck the embassy premises.
“We have determined that an explosion occurred at the American embassy,” Dellemyr told Norwegian public broadcasterNRK.
Police said they are in contact with embassy officials and confirmed thatno injuries have been reportedso far.
Authorities are currently working to assess the extent of the damage caused by the blast.
Officials also said it isstill unclear what caused the explosion or who might be responsible, and investigations are ongoing.
The US Embassy in Oslo had not immediately issued a statement following the incident, and theUS State Departmentalso did not release any official comment during the early hours after the blast.
Norwegian police have secured the area and are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
The incident comes at a time whenUS diplomatic missions in several parts of the world have faced security threats, particularly amid rising tensions involvingthe United States, Iran, and Israel.
However, authorities have not confirmed whether the Oslo explosion is connected to the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
