Actor Eric Dane, widely recognized for his role as McSteamy (Mark Sloan) on ABC’sGrey’s Anatomy, has died at the age of 53. Dane passed away on Thursday, one year after being diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), a debilitating neurodegenerative disease that gradually paralyzes muscles.
In a statement reported byThe Hollywood Reporter, his representatives shared, "He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife Rebecca Gayheart, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of the world." The family requested privacy as they navigate this difficult time. The statement also highlighted Dane’s commitment as a "passionate advocate for awareness and research" during his battle with ALS, aiming to support others facing the same fight.
Eric Dane openly discussed his illness in June 2025 onGood Morning America, revealing that only one side of his body was still functioning and reflecting on the sobering progression of ALS. Despite his illness, he remained grateful for the love and support from his fans.

His charm, talent, and on-screen transformation made him one of the most beloved characters on the series.
