On December 19, 2020, a fire at a mobile phone shop in Shahjahanpur revealed a badly burnt body, which police mistakenly declared as an animal carcass. The body was disposed of in a pond after completing formalities.

A five-year-old murder case in Shahjahanpur has come to light after a DNA report confirmed that a charred body, previously dismissed as an animal carcass, belonged to Abhishek Yadav, who went missing in December 2020. Following the DNA confirmation, police have registered a murder case and arrested two accused, while the victim’s family has demanded action against officers who mishandled the case.

The incident occurred on December 19, 2020, when a fire broke out at a mobile phone shop near Roza bus stand. Police recovered a badly burnt body but declared it an animal carcass and disposed of it in a pond. Meanwhile, Abhishek’s father had filed a missing person report after his son never returned home. In 2022, partially burnt clothing and personal items were identified by the family, leading to DNA testing that confirmed Abhishek’s identity.

The family alleged that Abhishek was beaten, burned, and abandoned, and accused police of ignoring their complaints for years. Based on the DNA report, police have named two suspects, Naim and Raju, and taken them into custody, with investigations ongoing. Authorities have formed two teams to probe the murder and the original lapse in handling the case. The family continues to demand accountability for both the accused and police personnel responsible for the delayed justice.
