The ongoing dispute over the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) elections has intensified, exposing deep divisions within the state’s cricket administration. The controversy began during the recent General Body meeting, where members were split over the timing of the elections. While one group demanded immediate polls, another faction supported postponement until the introduction of the new Sports Bill.
OCA Council member and former MLA Lalitendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra strongly opposed the delay, alleging that postponing elections violates established norms and constitutional provisions. Referring to Lodha Committee recommendations, he pointed out that elections in several other state cricket associations have already been completed. He questioned the continuation of the current leadership despite the alleged end of its tenure and warned of approaching the court and informing the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Responding to the allegations, OCA Secretary Sanjay Behera denied any wrongdoing and maintained that elections would be held after the new Sports Bill comes into effect. He also stated that he had discussed matters with Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, who assured support regarding OCA and the renovation of Barabati Stadium.
The standoff has increased political and administrative tension within the association, with uncertainty continuing over when the elections will ultimately take place.
