In a major counter-terror operation, Delhi Police busted a suspected terror module with links to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence and Bangladesh-based extremist organisations, arresting eight suspects from Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
Six accused were detained from garment factories in Tiruppur district, while two others were arrested from West Bengal. Officials said some of the suspects are Bangladeshi nationals who were allegedly using forged Aadhaar cards to hide their identities.
Security agencies suspect that the group was planning a major terrorist strike in India under the direction of foreign handlers. The arrests came shortly after intelligence inputs warned of a possible terror plot targeting crowded religious and heritage sites in Delhi, including areas near the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk.
Investigators recovered eight mobile phones and 16 SIM cards during the operation, which are being analysed for digital evidence and links to other operatives.
The suspects first came under the scanner after provocative “Free Kashmir” posters appeared at multiple locations across Delhi, including metro premises. A detailed investigation traced the network to Tamil Nadu, leading to the arrests.
Officials described the crackdown as a major success in preventing a possible terror attack. Further investigations are underway to uncover additional operatives, funding sources, and international connections.
