CBSE Introduces On-Screen Marking for Class 12 Exams from 2026

CBSE will implement On-Screen Marking (OSM) for Class 12 answer scripts starting in 2026 to improve efficiency and transparency. Class 10 evaluations will continue in the traditional physical format.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to modernize its evaluation process for Class 12 board examinations in 2026 by introducing On-Screen Marking (OSM). The initiative aims to enhance transparency, reduce errors, and improve overall efficiency in assessing nearly 46 lakh students across India and 26 other countries.

Under the new system, teachers will evaluate answer scripts digitally, eliminating the need for manual handling of physical answer books. OSM will automate totalling of marks, streamline coordination tasks, and reduce workforce requirements, as post-result mark verification will no longer be necessary. The digital approach is also environmentally friendly and expected to cut transportation costs and save time.

CBSE clarified that Class 10 answer books will continue to be evaluated physically in 2026, keeping the traditional process intact for younger students.

To implement OSM, schools must prepare computer labs with stable internet connectivity, updated browsers, and necessary hardware. Teachers will receive login credentials via OASIS IDs to familiarize themselves with the platform. CBSE will conduct trial runs, training sessions, instructional videos, and provide dedicated technical support to ensure smooth adoption.

This transition allows teachers from all affiliated schools in India and abroad to participate in evaluations, making the process more inclusive, efficient, and accurate. CBSE’s move to digital assessment represents a significant step in modernizing examination and evaluation practices, aligning with global standards of educational technology.
