CBSE Class 12 Physics Exam 2026: Moderate, Concept-Driven but Lengthy, Say Experts

The CBSE Class 12 Physics Exam 2026 was rated moderate and largely NCERT-based, though some found it calculation-heavy and lengthy. Experts say strong conceptual clarity and time management were key to scoring well.

TheCentral Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)Class 12 Physics Exam 2026 evoked mixed reactions from teachers and students across the country. While most experts described the paper as moderate and concept-driven, several noted that it was lengthy and calculation-intensive.

Moderate and Concept-Focused

Ajay Kumar Sharma, National Academic Director atAakash Educational Services, said the paper was comparable to last year’s exam and largely based on NCERT textbooks. He highlighted a slightly tricky Wheatstone bridge numerical that required strong conceptual understanding.

Dr. Nisha Sharma fromKIIT World School, Gurugram, described the exam as balanced and moderately structured, with emphasis on conceptual clarity and application-based learning.

Thilak M ofJAIN International Residential School, Bengaluru, pointed out that long-answer derivations from Electrostatics, Ray Optics, and EMI & AC were scoring opportunities for well-prepared students.

Ravi Dutt, a Physics teacher from Jaipur, said the paper was well aligned with NCERT and tested analytical reasoning, especially in case-study questions.

Saurabh Shukla, PGT Physics atGlobal Indian International School, Noida, shared the approximate topic weightage:

  • Optics – 21 marks

  • Electrostatics & Current Electricity – 17 marks

  • Magnetism & EMI – 17 marks

  • Modern Physics – 12 marks

  • Semiconductors – 7 marks

Length and Calculations Challenging

Some educators felt the paper was lengthy. Ms. Sarika from DAV Faridabad described it as excessively mathematical, while Vineeta Singh from Lucknow noted complex derivations and layered computations.

Anup Karda from Witty International School, Udaipur, observed that Sections B and C required strong conceptual grounding, whereas Section E was relatively easier and scoring.

Nishant Kumar Singh from Seth M.R. Jaipuria Schools added that case-study questions demanded integrated understanding and effective time management.

Students’ Perspective

Students largely echoed similar sentiments:

  • Riya Sharma (Noida): Moderate but lengthy; manageable with strong numerical practice.

  • Harshita Verma (Lucknow): Straightforward numericals, though some were calculation-heavy.

  • Karan Patel (Noida): No out-of-syllabus surprises, but multi-step problems were time-consuming.

  • Aayush Kumar (Noida): MCQs were easy; Section C required careful calculations.

Section-Wise Analysis

MCQs & Assertion-Reason:Mostly direct, with a few analytical questions.2 & 3 Mark Questions:Standard numericals and conceptual problems, some multi-step.Case Studies:Application-based and slightly time-consuming.5 Mark Derivations:Scoring for students who wrote step-by-step solutions accurately.

Final Verdict

Overall, the CBSE Class 12 Physics Exam 2026 was well-balanced, concept-driven, and closely aligned with NCERT. While not overly difficult, its length and calculation-heavy sections made time management crucial.

Students with consistent practice, numerical accuracy, and conceptual clarity were well-positioned to score comfortably.
