Tension broke out at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar late Friday night when an on-duty doctor was attacked by a patient’s relative, resulting in a broken hand. The incident occurred after the relative, identified as Bindu Sagar Rout, became enraged when an accident victim could not be examined at the Out-Patient Department (OPD) and was advised to visit the emergency ward instead.
The altercation quickly escalated into violence, during which doctor Janmejaya Mishra was struck with a helmet, fracturing his hand, and plaster technician Ratnakar Bal, who was present, was also injured. Following a complaint, the accused was arrested by Capital Police and later produced before a local court.
The attack has raised concerns over the increasing violence faced by medical professionals and highlighted serious gaps in hospital security and staff safety.
