Odisha Government Expands OTET Category-II Eligibility for 2-Year B.Ed (Special Education) Candidates

Candidates holding a 2-year B Ed (Special Education) qualification will now be permitted to appear for OTET Category–II.

In a significant step towards strengthening inclusive education and expanding opportunities for aspiring teachers, the Odisha government has extended eligibility for the Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) Category-II to candidates who have completed a two-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course in Special Education.

According to the latest government decision, candidates holding a 2-year B.Ed (Special Education) qualification will now be allowed to appear for the OTET Category-II examination. Previously, eligibility for the test was restricted to candidates who had completed a one-year B.Ed (Special Education) course.

Sources said the decision has been taken in line with evolving teacher education norms and with the objective of creating a larger pool of trained and qualified educators, particularly in the field of special education. The move is also expected to help meet the increasing demand for teachers trained to work with children with special needs.

The Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) is a mandatory qualification for the appointment of teachers in government and government-aided schools across the state. With this latest expansion of eligibility criteria, the Odisha government has reiterated its commitment to improving teacher availability and promoting inclusive education throughout the state.
