The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially declared Manmohan Samal and Sujeet Kumar as its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Odisha. The announcement was made by the party’s central leadership, signalling a strategic push ahead of the polls.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi congratulated Samal following the declaration. The BJP has indicated it will field three candidates and has reportedly purchased 16 nomination sets, with nominations scheduled to be filed on March 5. Party MLAs have been directed to remain present during the filing process.
Meanwhile, the race for the fourth Rajya Sabha seat has heated up after the Indian National Congress extended support to joint candidate Dr. Datteshwar Hota, backed by the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). The BJP has criticised the opposition’s move, calling for broader consultation, while the BJD clarified that Hota is a consensus nominee supported by both opposition parties.
Political observers expect the development to intensify electoral calculations in Odisha as parties recalibrate strategies ahead of the Rajya Sabha contest.
