Cold wave weakens, dense fog disrupts daily life across Odisha

As winter cold slightly recedes across Odisha, dense fog has become a major challenge, severely affecting visibility and normal life in several regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that dense to very dense fog conditions are likely to continue across the state until the 7th of the month, with northern and interior districts expected to be the most affected.

The intensity of the winter cold has marginally declined across Odisha, but widespread dense fog has emerged as a serious concern, disrupting daily activities and transportation. Since the early morning hours, thick fog has enveloped many areas, significantly reducing visibility on highways and rural roads, causing inconvenience to commuters.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast dense to very dense fog conditions across the state till the 7th of this month, with northern and interior districts likely to experience more severe conditions. For today, very dense fog is expected in Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, and Nayagarh districts, prompting the issuance of an Orange Warning. Residents have been advised to exercise caution, especially during early morning and late-night hours.

Meteorologists noted that increasing cloud cover over several districts may gradually raise night temperatures in the coming days. However, foggy conditions are expected to persist despite the slight increase in minimum temperatures. The IMD has also indicated that no major change in overall weather patterns is likely over the next five days, urging commuters to follow traffic advisories, use fog lights, and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of poor visibility.
