Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has formally expressed support for removing Prince Andrew from the British royal line of succession, writing to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to confirm his government’s position.

In his letter, Albanese stated that Australia would agree to any legislative proposal to remove Andrew, citing the seriousness of the allegations and the need for a full legal investigation. Prince Andrew, who remains eighth in line to the throne, had already lost his royal titles and privileges following controversies linked to his association with convicted offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Andrew was recently arrested and questioned by Thames Valley Police over allegations of misconduct in public office related to his past role as a UK trade envoy. He was released after questioning but remains under investigation and has denied all allegations.

Any removal from the line of succession would require approval through legislation by the UK Parliament and consent from Commonwealth nations where King Charles III is head of state, including Australia.

The development marks a significant escalation in the crisis surrounding Prince Andrew and could have major constitutional and royal implications.
