A minor was injured by an air gun pellet during a practice session in Rasnapur village, Mirgamunda area of Sambalpur Sadar, on Sunday.

A minor was injured by an air gun pellet during a practice session in Rasnapur village, Mirgamunda area of Sambalpur Sadar on Sunday, sparking panic in the locality. The child was immediately rushed to Burla Medical College and Hospital, where an iron fragment from the pellet was discovered lodged in the body. Due to the severity of the injury, the minor was referred to Sishu Bhavan in Cuttack for specialised treatment.

Incident Details
Police sources said a youth was practising with the air gun when the minor accidentally came into its line of fire, sustaining a pellet injury near the right armpit. The exact circumstances of the firing are under investigation.

Police Action
The youth was detained while allegedly attempting to flee, and the air gun used in the incident was seized. The minor’s family resides as tenants in the youth’s house, where the accident occurred. Authorities are investigating the possession of the air gun, including whether he owns other weapons and the method of purchase.

Preliminary Findings
Initial investigations indicate no deliberate intent to harm the child. Police are conducting a detailed probe to determine any negligence and fully understand the circumstances surrounding the accident.
