A shocking incident was reported from Malipur village under Pattamundai Rural Police limits in Odisha’s Kendrapara district, where a man allegedly assaulted his wife with a sharp weapon after a family dispute and later attempted to take his own life.
The accused has been identified as Pratap Malik, and the injured woman is his wife, Bharati. According to sources, the couple had a heated argument late on Monday night over a family-related matter. The verbal altercation soon turned violent, during which Pratap allegedly attacked Bharati with a sharp weapon locally known as akatari, inflicting severe injuries on her head and neck.
Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to the spot and immediately shifted Bharati to the Pattamundai Community Health Centre. Due to her critical condition, she was later referred to a hospital in Cuttack for advanced treatment.
On Tuesday morning, villagers found Pratap lying unconscious near a pond with a bottle of poison and a blood-stained sharp weapon beside him. He was rescued and taken to the Pattamundai hospital, from where he was also referred to Cuttack.
Both husband and wife remain in critical condition. Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading to the incident. Further details are awaited.
