In a major breakthrough for security forces engaged in anti-Maoist operations, a hardcore Maoist carrying a reward of ₹21 lakh surrendered before the Superintendent of Police of Malkangiri on Wednesday.
The surrendered cadre has been identified asSukram alias Suresh, an Area Committee Member (ACM) who was active across Maoist-affected regions of Odisha and neighbouring Chhattisgarh. According to police officials, Sukram had been associated with Maoist activities for nearly16 yearsand was involved in several serious criminal cases.Police said Sukram played a key role in multiple violent incidents, includingIED explosions, abduction of civilians and killingsin remote and insurgency-hit areas. His surrender is considered a significant setback to left-wing extremist groups operating along the Odisha–Chhattisgarh border.
