At least 20 people were injured after a bus carrying members of the Opera Western Odisha Jatra Party overturned at Dangapathar ghat under Kansar Fandi in Riamal police station limits of Deogarh district on Monday.
The accident occurred while the troupe was returning from an opera performance in Dangapathara village. Reports suggest that the bus lost control on the hilly ghat stretch, veered off the road, and overturned. All artists on board sustained injuries, with some reported to be in serious condition.
Local residents quickly rushed to the scene, rescued the injured passengers, and shifted them to the Kansar Community Health Centre for immediate treatment. Those critically injured were later referred to the District Headquarters Hospital in Deogarh for advanced medical care. Authorities confirmed that all injured individuals are currently receiving treatment.
Police from Riamal police station reached the spot soon after the incident and began investigating the cause of the mishap. Preliminary findings indicate that the bus may have lost balance while negotiating the ghat road. Officials are also examining road conditions and possible mechanical issues that may have contributed to the accident.
