With less than 48 hours remaining, the movie is still awaiting clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification, prompting the makers to approach the Madras High Court for urgent intervention. Despite the uncertainty, tickets are reportedly being sold for anywhere between Rs 1,000 and Rs 5,000—far exceeding the Tamil Nadu government’s capped ticket price of Rs 190. Several prominent theatres in Chennai are allegedly selling first-day-first-show tickets at inflated rates, often through bulk sales to fan clubs.

Distributors and exhibitors claim the makers are demanding an 80 per cent share of ticket revenue, leaving theatre owners with minimal returns after taxes and operational costs. This has reportedly led some cinemas to opt out of screening Jana Nayagan, instead choosing alternative releases such as Parasakthi.
