Odia Composer and Singer Abhijit Majumdar Dies at 54 After Prolonged Illness

Veteran Odia composer and singer Abhijit Majumdar passed away at AIIMS Bhubaneswar on January 25 after battling multiple chronic ailments. He leaves behind a rich musical legacy spanning over three decades.

Renowned Odia composer and singer Abhijit Majumdar passed away on Sunday, January 25, at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar. He was 54. Hospital authorities confirmed that Majumdar had been undergoing treatment for over four months for multiple chronic conditions and later developed severe complications due to refractory septic shock caused by an infection.

According to officials, the musician developed a fresh infection with fever on January 23, which led to a rapid deterioration in his health. Despite intensive medical intervention, he suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday morning. Doctors immediately initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation following Advanced Cardiac Life Support protocols, but he was declared clinically dead at 9:02 am, as reported by PTI.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep sorrow over Majumdar’s passing and paid tribute to him on social media. Describing his death as an irreparable loss, the Chief Minister said Majumdar’s contribution to Odisha’s music, cinema and cultural heritage would be remembered for generations, and extended condolences to the bereaved family.

Majumdar began his musical journey in 1991 in the Sambalpuri music circuit before rising to prominence in the Odia film industry. Over a career spanning more than 30 years, he composed over 700 songs across films, albums and independent projects, earning widespread recognition for his versatility and emotional depth.
