The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on Sunday urged all driving licence holders and vehicle owners to update their registered mobile numbers online to ensure smooth access to transport-related services.
According to the Ministry, citizens can easily update or upload their mobile numbers through the Vahan and Sarathi portals, making it easier to receive important alerts, notifications and service updates related to driving licences and vehicle registrations.
Officials clarified that there is no need to visit Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) for this purpose, as the entire process has been made available online. The initiative is aimed at improving service delivery, promoting digital governance and reducing overcrowding at RTOs.
The Ministry encouraged people to complete the update at the earliest to avoid inconvenience while availing transport services in the future.
Sharing the advisory on its official social media handle on X, MoRTH stated that keeping mobile numbers updated on the Vahan and Sarathi portals will help ensure records remain accurate and up to date, adding that the online facility eliminates the need for physical visits to transport offices.
The move is part of the government’s broader push to strengthen digital services and enhance citizen convenience under the Digital India initiative.
