Tension spread in parts of Ganjam district in Odisha after the decomposed body of an unidentified youth was discovered near a roadside on Tuesday, prompting suspicion of a possible murder.
According to police, the body was found near agricultural land along the main road in Tanarada village under the jurisdiction of Belaguntha Police Station. The body was reportedly in a highly decomposed state, suggesting that the youth might have died several days ago.
Local residents first noticed a strong foul smell while passing through the road early in the morning. When they checked the surrounding area, they discovered the body lying beside the road and immediately alerted the police.
Soon after receiving the information, police personnel reached the spot and initiated a preliminary investigation into the incident.
Officials suspect that the youth may have been murdered at another location and that his body was later dumped near the roadside to avoid detection.
Preliminary findings indicate that the body may have been lying at the site for nearly three to four days before it was discovered by locals.
The identity of the deceased youth has not yet been confirmed. Police have begun efforts to identify the victim and determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
Authorities have sent the body for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. Investigators are also scanning missing person reports and collecting clues from nearby areas that could help establish the identity of the deceased.
