Odisha is set for a major railway infrastructure upgrade with ₹2,439 crore allocated for the redevelopment of stations across the state under the Amrit Station Scheme. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the initiative aims to modernise stations, improve passenger amenities and enhance safety and connectivity.The Railways is also expanding the implementation of the Kavach automatic train protection system to improve operational safety. Under the system, work or tendering processes are currently underway for 772 route kilometres in the state, while Kavach coverage has already been sanctioned for 2,922 route kilometres.Addressing a presser, the Minister said that railway projects worth Rs 90,659 crore are currently underway in the state. He stated that Odisha will benefit significantly from the proposed East–West Freight Corridor, which will pass through Odisha and extend to Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattishgarh and Gujarat.
