The much-awaited release of Border 2 ran into unexpected trouble on Friday morning as several early shows were cancelled across multiple cities, including Mumbai. The cancellations were reportedly caused by delays in the delivery and downloading of the film’s content at theatres, leaving fans disappointed on opening day.
In Mumbai, early screenings at venues such as Maxus Borivali were called off after theatres failed to receive the film on time. Moviegoers who arrived as early as 7:30 am for first-day-first-show screenings were informed at the venue that the shows had been cancelled. Theatre management later issued messages to ticket-holders, citing technical delays and assuring audiences that screenings would be rescheduled once the content was ready.
The unexpected cancellations sparked frustration among fans, many of whom had booked tickets well in advance. Several moviegoers took to social media to express disappointment, hoping the issue would be resolved quickly so they could still catch the film on its release day.
Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 marks Sunny Deol’s return to the iconic war franchise nearly three decades after JP Dutta’s 1997 blockbuster Border. The sequel is set against the backdrop of the 1971 India-Pakistan War and features Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty as officers from the Air Force, Army and Navy, respectively.
The film is also reported to include special cameo appearances by Akshaye Khanna, Suniel Shetty and Sudesh Berry, recreated using digital de-ageing technology. Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta, Border 2 has generated strong pre-release buzz, particularly in metro cities. Trade analysts expect the film to open in the range of Rs 32–35 crore at the box office, positioning it as one of the biggest releases of the year.
