Iran has executed a man convicted of spying for Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, according to reports carried by the country’s official media. The execution underscores Tehran’s continued hardline stance against alleged espionage activities linked to Israel, amid heightened regional tensions.
Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency identified the individual asAli Ardestani, stating that he was found guilty of collaborating with Mossad and passing on sensitive and classified information to Israeli intelligence officers. According to the report, Ardestani received financial compensation for his activities, with payments allegedly made in the form of cryptocurrencies.
Iranian authorities claimed that Ardestani maintained direct contact with Mossad operatives and was involved in gathering and transmitting information considered detrimental to the country’s national security. Following his arrest, he was tried under Iran’s laws related to espionage and cooperation with hostile foreign intelligence services. The judiciary said the death sentence was carried out after the completion of all legal procedures and confirmation by the Supreme Court.
Executions related to espionage charges have been reported periodically in Iran, particularly in cases involving alleged links to Israel, which Tehran considers its primary regional adversary. Iranian officials frequently accuse Mossad of orchestrating covert operations inside the country, including sabotage, assassinations of nuclear scientists, and intelligence gathering.
The execution comes at a time of intensified rhetoric and covert confrontation between Iran and Israel, with both sides accusing each other of security threats and destabilising activities. Iranian authorities have reiterated that they will continue to deal decisively with anyone accused of collaborating with foreign intelligence agencies, especially those they label as “enemy states.”
