Odisha Govt Sanctions Rs 91 Crore for Redevelopment of Koraput Bus Stand into Modern Terminal

The new facility will be developed on the model of the Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bus Terminal in Bhubaneswar. Construction work is expected to commence once all required procedural formalities are completed.

Koraput, Odisha:The Odisha government has sanctionedRs 91 crorefor the redevelopment of theaging Koraput bus standinto a modern, four-storey bus terminal, marking a major step in upgrading the district’s transport infrastructure. The project will be modeled after theBabasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Baramunda Bus Terminalin Bhubaneswar. Construction is set to begin once all formalities are completed.

The existing terminal, built over three decades ago, had deteriorated due to prolonged use, posing challenges for both commuters and long-distance bus operators. Limited space and increasing vehicular traffic had made manoeuvring difficult, prompting authorities to plan a modern facility.

The new terminal, to be constructed across3.64 acres, will featureseparate entry and exit gates, passenger-friendly amenities,shopping zones, a Mission Shakti café, driver rest rooms, drinking water facilities, OSRTC offices, and adequate toilets. The project was reviewed by a high-level committee including officials fromKoraput Collectorate, OSRTC, Koraput Municipality, and OPHWC, which will execute the project.

Once completed, the upgraded terminal is expected toimprove commuter experience, enhance road transport connectivity, and provide a safe, modern hub for thousands of daily passengers.
