The Kendrapara district administration has ordered a formal inquiry into the alleged abuse and attempted attack on Rajnagar Block Development Officer (BDO) Tilottama Prusty following an incident that reportedly occurred on January 2. Acting on a complaint submitted by the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) Association, the District Collector on Monday directed an investigation into the matter and assured appropriate action against those responsible.
Following the incident, BDO Tilottama Prusty proceeded on leave. Police said an FIR has been lodged against the accused on behalf of the Rajnagar Block Chairman.
The matter came to light after a video purportedly showing the altercation went viral on social media. The footage allegedly shows a group of public representatives inside the BDO’s office, reportedly led by a local BJP leader, during a heated exchange. In the video, one individual is seen attempting to lift and throw a laptop amid the confrontation.
According to sources, the dispute reportedly stemmed from issues related to the clearance of bills and sanctioning of development works. It is alleged that a local leader, accompanied by more than 30 supporters, entered the BDO’s chamber around noon and pressured the officer to clear certain bills and approve projects.
Sources said the BDO informed the group that payments could only be processed as per government norms and in proportion to work completed. This reportedly led to further escalation, with alleged threats being issued and an attempt made to attack the officer by lifting a laptop. The entire incident was reportedly captured on CCTV cameras installed inside the BDO’s office.
Condemning the incident, Kendrapara OAS Association president Naba Krishna Jena demanded strict and exemplary action against those involved, stressing the need to ensure the safety and dignity of government officers.
