The Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Tirtol police station in Jagatsinghpur district,Pradipta Sethy, is facing disciplinary action for allegedly releasing seized sand-laden vehicles on his own accord. Taking serious note of the incident, theJagatsinghpur District Collectoron Saturdaystopped the IIC’s salaryand issued him ashow-cause noticefor misuse of power.
Reports indicate that the district administration conducted raids atJeypore and Kilipal sand ghatsduring November and December, seizing over80 sand-laden Hyva vehiclesinvolved in illegal sand mining. Complaints were later filed at Tirtol police station by theDistrict Mining Officeragainst the seized vehicles and the leaseholders of the sand ghats.
The owners of the seized vehicles subsequently approached theOrissa High Court, which directed them to submit all relevant documents within 15 days before the IIC, Sub-Collector, and District Mining Officer to seek release of their vehicles.
However, IIC Pradipta Sethy allegedlyreleased the vehicles without following the court’s directions, violating procedure and prompting the district administration to act. In response, the Collector ordered thestoppage of the IIC’s salaryand demanded an explanation for the lapse.
