An anonymous email warning of a bomb explosion inside the Deogarh District Judge’s Court triggered an immediate evacuation and intense security operation on Thursday. The email claimed thatthree RDX explosive deviceshad been planted on the premises and that a blast would occur at2:45 pm, prompting urgent action from authorities.
Police responded swiftly, deploying bomb disposal units, dog squads, and security personnel to the court complex. Court officials, staff, lawyers, and visitors were evacuated as a precautionary measure. All parcels and incoming materials at the court gate were thoroughly checked. As of the latest update,no explosive materials have been detected.
Security forces cordoned off the entire premises, restricting movement until the search was completed. Police are now attempting to trace the origin of the threatening email.
The Deogarh incident follows similar bomb threats received earlier the same day atSambalpurandCuttackdistrict courts.
InSambalpur, anti-bomb squads conducted searches after the court received a threat.
InCuttack, the District Judge’s Court was evacuated following an email alert, though searches had not begun initially.
Lawyers in Sambalpur expressed concern, stating such incidents were unprecedented.One senior lawyer remarked:
“This has never happened earlier. An investigation is underway to establish the source and truth behind the email.”
Director General of Police (DGP)YB Khuraniaconfirmed the threats and assured the public that security had been heightened across all affected locations.He stated:
“Threatening emails were received at courts in Cuttack, Deogarh and Sambalpur. Police are on alert and thorough searches are being conducted. We request people not to panic and to cooperate with us.”
The DGP’s office further issued a press note emphasizing that enhanced security measures were in place and investigations were underway.
Chief MinisterMohan Charan Majhialso contacted top state officials, including the DGP and Chief Secretary, ordering a detailed probe into the matter.
No explosives were found at any location till the time of reporting.
