The bail hearing of nine accused persons, including Muna Mohanty, in the Odisha Police sub-inspector recruitment scam was deferred by the court on Thursday, with the matter now scheduled for further hearing on February 16. Mohanty had sought interim bail citing health concerns, but the court declined to grant relief at this stage.
While rejecting the interim bail plea, the court directed jail authorities to provide Mohanty with adequate and appropriate medical treatment during his custody. The court also instructed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit an update on the progress of the investigation, seeking details of developments made so far in the case.
Meanwhile, the CBI has intensified its probe into the alleged recruitment irregularities. On January 13, the agency began questioning aspirants to understand the modus operandi of the scam and identify those involved. Several candidates have already recorded their statements, adding to the evidence collected earlier from 10 aspirants.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the CBI has issued notices to 150 aspirants, asking them to appear for questioning in phases. Investigators are gathering detailed inputs, with sources indicating that several individuals summoned may have links to the alleged recruitment deal under scrutiny. The case continues to draw attention as both the judicial process and investigation move forward.
