Students of Shailabala Women’s Autonomous College in Cuttack, Odisha, intensified their protest demanding that the institution be granted university status. The students staged demonstrations outside the college campus, holding placards and raising slogans against the government’s inaction.
The protest has been ongoing for the past 28 days, with students expressing disappointment that their demand was not included in the recent state budget. They stated that university status would help improve academic opportunities, infrastructure, and institutional autonomy.
Students also highlighted the college’s 113-year legacy and questioned why it was overlooked while other colleges were granted university recognition. Protesters warned that their agitation would continue and intensify if the government fails to respond.
So far, there has been no official response from the Higher Education Department. Students are demanding immediate dialogue and a formal announcement regarding the institution’s upgrade.
