Former India captain Sourav Ganguly faced another painful experience in South Africa, this time as coach of Pretoria Capitals, after his side lost the SA20 final to Sunrisers Eastern Cape in Cape Town. Dewald Brevis starred with a breathtaking 101 off 56 balls, giving the Capitals a competitive 158 for 7.
However, Sunrisers’ captain Tristan Stubbs and Matthew Breetzke forged an unbroken 114-run partnership for the fifth wicket, with Stubbs smashing crucial boundaries in the final overs. The Sunrisers chased down the target with four balls to spare, winning their third SA20 title in four seasons.
For Ganguly, the loss echoed past disappointments in South Africa, including India’s 2003 World Cup final defeat. Pretoria Capitals’ captain Keshav Maharaj acknowledged the sting of another narrow final loss, urging the team to learn from mistakes and aim for future success.
