On the occasion ofBiju Jayanti,Shreemayee Mishralaunched a pointed attack onBJD president and former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, questioning his efforts to honor his father, the lateBiju Patnaik. She asked how many times Patnaik had approached Delhi to seek theBharat Ratnafor Biju Patnaik and suggested that sincere efforts might have earned the award by now.
Shreemayee also criticized the practice of offering mere floral tributes, saying it fell short of fulfilling the responsibility of a son who held power for nearly three decades. She referred to thedemolition of Biju Patnaik’s samadhi at Swargadwar in Puri, alleging his memory had been erased and that the current narrative was manipulated for political credit.
Linking the remarks to theRajya Sabha elections, Shreemayee highlighted the role of Dilip Ray, who cared for Biju Patnaik during his final days, and suggested that support should be given to those who were close to the late leader. She concluded by noting that MLAs who admire Biju Patnaik may make decisions based on conscience during the elections.
