Pune experienced a warm start to the week as daytime temperatures hovered near 30°C on Monday, prompting fewer people to wear warm clothes. The Shivajinagar weather station recorded a maximum of around 30°C, while other parts of the city reported readings above 29°C.
The year began with daytime temperatures around 29°C, which slightly dipped to near 27°C by January 5 before rising again. Night temperatures have also climbed back into double digits, with minimums on January 12 recorded at 10.9°C in Shivajinagar and 10.4°C in Pashan. Only the NDA area saw a marginal sub-10°C minimum of 9.5°C, while Lohegaon, Lavale, and Magarpatta reported warmer mornings between 14°C and 17°C.
Meteorologists attribute the warmer nights to medium to high cloud cover brought by moisture-laden northerly winds from the Bay of Bengal, which trap heat and prevent temperatures from dropping significantly. This pattern is expected to continue over the next 48 hours, keeping morning temperatures around 11°C on January 13 and 14, gradually rising to about 13°C by January 18.
On January 15, as Pune votes for its new municipal corporation after nine years, morning temperatures are expected near 12°C, with daytime highs likely reaching 30°C.
