Police on Sunday apprehended five juveniles in connection with the murder of a young man in the Kukurikani area of Odisha’s Jharsuguda district. The accused were later produced before the Juvenile Court, police officials confirmed.
According to the investigation, the youth was allegedly killed following a dispute over a silver chain. After committing the murder, the juveniles reportedly wrapped the body in polythene and dumped it in a nearby forest area to conceal the crime.
Police launched an intensive probe after the body was recovered, which led to the apprehension of all five accused. During the investigation, the silver chain believed to be the motive behind the crime was seized from their possession, strengthening the case.
Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police G.R. Raghavendra stated that all the accused are juveniles and school dropouts. He added that the offence was committed due to sudden provocation during the dispute over the silver chain. Further legal proceedings are underway.
