Odisha experiences relief from the recent severe cold wave as temperatures rise in Jharsuguda and Keonjhar, influenced by a passing western disturbance.
In Jharsuguda, the mercury climbed by 2°C to 8.8°C early Friday morning, while Keonjhar saw a slight increase of 1.2°C, reaching 10.6°C by 5:30 am, giving residents a brief respite from the chilling conditions. Bhubaneswar also recorded a cool 12°C at the same time.
Jharsuguda had been enduring record-breaking cold this season, with temperatures repeatedly breaking the previous all-time low of 5.6°C. On January 10, the mercury dropped to 4.5°C—the lowest ever recorded in the town—following earlier dips of 4.6°C on January 9, 5°C on January 16, 5.1°C on January 6, and 5.4°C on January 7. According to the IMDS, such lows have not been seen in Jharsuguda since 1953.
