Mohan Charan Majhi has strongly criticised Mamata Banerjee over the Santali conference controversy that surfaced during the visit of Droupadi Murmu. The Odisha Chief Minister alleged that the West Bengal government had shown disregard toward the Santali language and the tribal community by not giving due importance to the event.
Majhi stated that the Santali language holds deep cultural and historical significance for tribal communities across eastern India and should be respected by all state governments. He further emphasised that issues related to tribal identity and language should be handled with sensitivity and seriousness.
The remarks came at a time when President Murmu was visiting the region, drawing attention to the matter and sparking political debate between the governments of Odisha and West Bengal. The issue has since generated discussions about the promotion and protection of tribal languages and cultural heritage in the region.
