The announcement coincided with the concluding day of the Kalahandi Utsav Ghumura–2026, where the Chief Minister attended as the chief guest.

The projects cover multiple sectors and are aimed at accelerating infrastructure development, enhancing public amenities, and promoting balanced regional growth, particularly in western Odisha.

Religious Visit and Cultural HighlightsBefore the official proceedings, CM Majhi offered prayers at the Maa Manikeswari temple, Kalahandi’s presiding deity. He later attended the closing evening of Kalahandi Utsav Ghumura–2026 at Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium. The celebrations featured a drone show highlighting the district’s art, culture, and heritage, drawing large crowds and showcasing Kalahandi’s rich traditions.

Major Irrigation and Dam AnnouncementsDuring his address at the Saheed Rendo Majhi stage, the Chief Minister announced the Rawal Utei Irrigation Project, estimated at Rs 3,325 crore, and plans for a dam across the Tel river near Belgaon at a projected cost of Rs 505.98 crore. He added that the Detailed Project Report for Rawal Utei has been prepared and approved by the Central Water Commission.

Speaking at the event, CM Majhi said nearly Rs 950 crore worth of projects were inaugurated during the occasion, with more than Rs 1,600 crore allocated overall for Kalahandi’s development.

Economic and Agricultural ImpactOfficials noted that these initiatives are expected to boost irrigation, strengthen infrastructure, and drive economic growth in the district, providing significant benefits to farmers and residents alike.
