The body of a newborn baby boy was recovered from the Naraj barrage area in Cuttack on Sunday morning, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death.
The infant was found on the gate structure beneath the Naraj bridge, after which police and Fire Department personnel rushed to the site for recovery. The body was later sent to SCB Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Suspicion of Deliberate ActPreliminary reports suggest the newborn was allegedly thrown from the bridge. Instead of falling into the river, the baby landed on the concrete portion of the barrage gate below. Investigators believe the location may have been deliberately chosen to avoid CCTV surveillance and conceal the identity of those responsible.
Authorities are examining whether the act was committed by the parents, though no confirmation has been made. It is believed the intent may have been to dispose of the body in the river, but the infant reportedly died from the impact on the concrete structure.
CCTV Footage Under ReviewLocal residents first spotted the body and alerted authorities. Fire service personnel, in coordination with the police, recovered the infant from the site. CCTV footage from surrounding areas is being reviewed to trace how the baby was brought to the location and to identify those involved.
