Residents of Sariganda Village Block NH-57 Over Drinking Water Shortage in Nayagarh
Residents of Sariganda village in Dasapalla block, Nayagarh district, Odisha, staged a road blockade on Monday to protest an acute drinking water shortage. The villagers placed pots and water containers on the Khordha–Bolangir National Highway (NH-57), bringing traffic to a standstill for several hours.
Hundreds of men and women participated, demanding immediate intervention to resolve the long-standing water crisis. Villagers alleged that despite repeated appeals to administrative officials, including the district collector and block authorities, no effective measures had been taken.
According to locals, the shortage has persisted for over a month, forcing families to rely on unsafe pond water, causing health issues, particularly among children and the elderly. Villagers warned that the protest would intensify if immediate relief was not provided.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing drinking water crisis in rural areas of Nayagarh district, raising concerns over access to basic amenities in remote villages.
