Odisha is likely to experience a change in weather conditions as a cyclonic circulation over the Indian Ocean and adjoining south-east Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a low-pressure area. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, the system is likely to form on Sunday and move west-northwestwards.
Under its influence, several parts of the state are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning for two days starting Monday. The weather system is expected to impact multiple districts, prompting authorities to issue warnings.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts. Wind speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are also likely during this period.
Additionally, yellow warnings have been issued for Jajpur, Cuttack, and Mayurbhanj districts for February 24, indicating continued rainfall and thunderstorm activity.
After the two-day rainfall period, dry weather conditions are expected to return across the state. However, minimum temperatures may rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the following days. The Meteorological Department is closely monitoring the system and its movement.
