Former India captain Virat Kohli, along with spinner Kuldeep Yadav and fielding coach T. Dilip, visited the Shree Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain on Saturday to seek Lord Shiva’s blessings and attended the sacred Bhasma Aarti. During the visit, Kohli was felicitated by the temple management committee.
Kuldeep described the visit as spiritually enriching, saying it was special to have darshan of Lord Mahakaal and seek divine blessings for both the team and the nation. The visit followed a similar early morning Bhasma Aarti attended by head coach Gautam Gambhir, wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul, and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak.
The temple visit came ahead of India’s third and final ODI against New Zealand at Holkar Cricket Stadium, with the series currently tied 1-1. Kohli had reclaimed the top spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings earlier this week, overtaking Rohit Sharma, and became India’s highest run-scorer against New Zealand in ODIs, amassing 1,773 runs in 35 matches, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s 1,750 runs in 42 matches.
Despite a modest 23-run score in the second ODI, Kohli’s visit to the Jyotirlinga shrine reflected his focus on spiritual grounding and seeking blessings ahead of a crucial series decider.
