In a daring late-night robbery, miscreants looted jewellery worth around Rs 50 lakh after cutting open the shutter of a jewellery shop on Monday night in Kendrapara. The incident occurred at a shop near Thakurhat under Kendrapara Sadar police station limits.
According to reports, the accused decamped with about 220 grams of gold and nearly 12 kg of silver ornaments. While fleeing the scene, they abandoned a motorcycle outside the shop. During the investigation, police recovered a gas cutter, a helmet, and gloves from the spot, all of which have been seized as evidence.
Jewellery shop owner Dipti Ranjan Sahu said he noticed suspicious activity while checking the shop’s CCTV feed on his mobile phone late at night. He saw two to three unidentified persons outside the shop who soon broke in and began collecting jewellery in a bag. He immediately alerted the police.
Police rushed to the scene, but the miscreants fled after spotting the approaching patrol team. The shop owner stated that although the burglars failed to break open the locker, they managed to steal all the ornaments kept outside it, including silver jewellery and 1-gram gold items.
Kendrapara Sadar police have launched an intensive investigation into the robbery. Further details are awaited as the probe continues.
