In a significant development in the much-discussed Shubhamitra murder case, police have taken the prime accusedDeepak Routon one-day remand. The remand has been granted to theKhuntuni Police, who will conduct further interrogation in connection with the case.
During the remand period, investigators are expected to carry out an in-depth probe into the death of Deepak Rout’s first wife,Aparna Priyadarshini, which was earlier reported as a road accident. Police suspect that her death may not have been accidental, and fresh revelations are anticipated during questioning.
Police sources indicated that if deemed necessary, a lie detection test may also be conducted on the accused as part of the ongoing investigation.
According to records, on March 17, 2002, Aparna Priyadarshini was travelling by car from Dhenkanal to Bhubaneswar when she allegedly met with an accident at Radhakishorepur under Khuntuni police station limits. At the time, Deepak Rout had informed the police that she died due to the accident.
However, Aparna’s family later alleged that her death was a case of murder rather than an accident, prompting a renewed investigation. Following these allegations, even the then investigating officer and the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) were brought under the scope of the probe.
Police believe that the remand interrogation may lead to crucial disclosures linking past incidents with the present murder case. Further investigation is underway.
