Police in Haryana’s Yamunanagar district have solved the murder of Baljinder Kaur, revealing that the crime was committed by her son, Gomit Rathi, with the help of a friend, following long-standing domestic tensions.
The victim, wife of the sarpanch of Shyampur village, was found dead under suspicious circumstances on December 24. The case was handed over to the Crime Branch due to unclear circumstances.
Secret Return and Planning
Investigators found that Gomit had secretly returned from the UK on December 18 without informing his family, with only his friend Pankaj aware of his arrival. Gomit reportedly harboured resentment toward his mother over repeated conflicts, including her opposition to his relationship with a woman from another caste.
The Murder
On the night of December 24, Gomit allegedly hid in a cattle shed and attacked his mother, strangling her to death. He and Pankaj attempted to make the death appear accidental by dumping her body in a water tank. Both accused have been arrested and sent to four days of police remand.
Investigation and Evidence
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) reconstructed the crime using mobile data, call records, location tracking, and crime scene examination. Technical evidence was crucial in uncovering the plot. Police are continuing the investigation to recover the murder weapon, confirm the accomplice’s role, and establish the full sequence of events.
