Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has dismissed retirement rumours, stating that he wants to continue playing T20 internationals for Australia and hopes to feature in both the 2028 T20 World Cup and the LA Olympics. Speaking to reporters in Melbourne, Maxwell emphasised that he will not set a formal finishing date and will judge his future based on fitness and performance over the next 12 months.

Maxwell acknowledged a below-par T20 World Cup 2026 performance, scoring 9, 31, and 22 at a strike rate of 110.71, which drew criticism from Ricky Ponting suggesting he may miss Australia’s 2028 squad. However, Maxwell stressed that his evaluation relies more on his mobility in the field and overall contribution rather than statistics alone.

Having retired from ODIs, Maxwell will play a limited number of T20Is until August 2027, including the upcoming series against Bangladesh. Additionally, he is preparing to make his debut in the Pakistan Super League with the Hyderabad Kingsmen. Maxwell remains optimistic about his future, aiming to remain “fit and firing” for international cricket and major tournaments ahead.
